About this Guide
A workplace safety and health program is a systematic plan to identify and control hazards and respond to emergencies. The program must lay out responsibilities, resources, and procedures for keeping the workplace safe and healthy. Its objective is to integrate safety and health into all work practices and conditions.
Studies show that good safety and health program reduces injuries and occupational illnesses.
A workplace safety and health program is a legislative requirement in workplaces with 20 or more workers. The size, hazards and complexity of your workplace will determine how sophisticated a program you need. This guide provides you with sample policies, procedures that we encourage you to customize, and make them suited to your workplace.
This program is only to be used as a guide that includes the eleven basic required elements to help you start your safety program, but is not limited to. Safety is on going, therefore it is important to show commitment, involve employees, and evaluate your program regularly to see where and how it can be improved.
