JHA (Job Hazardous Analysis) and SWP (Safe Work Procedures)

Every job or task that we undertake in the workplace has the potential if not done properly to create a risk of injury or disease. Part 2 of Manitoba’s Regulation 217/06 states “an employer must develop and implement safe work procedures for the work that is being done, train workers in SWP and ensure workers comply with the SWP.

We need to know how to Spot the Hazard, Assess the Risk then find a Safer Way by taking the necessary time and steps to complete a proper JHA that will give us our Safe Work Procedure to train and educate our workforce.  This course will give you the basic tools needed to start the process.

Ergonomics in the Workplace (Practicable Solutions)

Ergonomic hazards in the workplace have slowly made their way into the public eye. Many of the ways we work such as lifting, reaching, or repeating the same movements may strain our bodies and lead to injuries. Ergonomics prevents these types of injuries by fitting the job to the person using proper equipment and work practices. This results in the safest way to work and prevents workplace injuries.

By making workers more comfortable doing their job employers will see an increase in workplace moral and productivity as well as a decrease in time-loss injuries such as the common sprains, strains, and tears which account for more than 60% of injuries in Manitoba.

This course will give participants the knowledge they need to go into their own workplace and be able to identify the hazard, assess the risk, and find the safer way.

WORKPLACE SAFETY & HEALTH COMMITTEE/REPS

Once a workplace has more than 20 workers they are required to have a functioning Workplace Safety and Health Committee. In companies where there are 10 to 19 workers, a Worker Representative must be designated.  These positions have legislated duties and must be properly trained to be effective.  After completing this course you will have the working knowledge needed to set up a committee or appoint a representative for your organization.

INCIDENT INVESTIGATION & REPORTING

Manitoba’s W219 Act states “employers must have a procedure in place for inspections and investigations of accidents.

This course will help you to understand the steps that need to be implemented in order to conduct a proper incident investigation, the persons who need to be included in the process and who must receive the reports once the investigation is complete.  This is a key factor for due diligence and record keeping.

LOTO (Lockout Tag out)

There are many sources of energy in our workplaces that if not properly locked out and guarded could cause serious injuries or fatalities.  We need to have properly identified sources of energy (e.g., electrical, mechanical) so that when we are cleaning or repairing equipment we will be safe from accidental start up or release.  This course reflects the requirements of the CSA Standards for locking and tagging out when working on potential energized equipment. Meat slicers and dough machines are just a few examples of such equipment.

RESPECTFUL WORKPLACES (Includes Harassment, Violence & Working Alone or in Isolation Strategies): Coming Soon

This course is not about saying “Yes Please and No Thank You”.  It is the importance of respecting yourself, your co-worker and our customers.  Harassment and violence are real in the workplace.  We must know how to recognize, properly report and the required actions in the event of a situation.  This course also looks at the legislative requirements to implement a working alone or in isolation plan for your workplace.

IT'S GOOD BUSINESS RESPONSIBLE SERVICE & SAFETY PROGRAM FOR SERVERS

The It's Good Business Program is about changing views of alcohol service in the tourism/hospitality industry.  These views have changed in several ways: the consumption of alcohol has changed, public attitudes have changed and laws and regulations have changed.  Employees and employers who serve alcohol need to understand their role in response to this new business environment.  In addition to our online version of this certificate, MTEC is proud to offer in-house facilitated training.  This program is mandatory for all those serving alcohol in Manitoba.
